Mud and small stones carried onto public roads
Look for material in tyre tread and loose debris on the exit surface. Where there is enough usable space, a reusable FODS entrance can be assessed to help release tyre-borne material before it reaches the road. Include turning movements and cleaning access in the layout.
Dry pre-cleaning before a wheel-washing bay
Assess the mat footprint together with any water bath, wheel-washing bay and paved run-out. A dry cleaning stage does not remove the need to manage wash water or maintain the road exit. Site-specific levels, anchoring and required cleaning measures determine whether the combination is practical.
Vehicle-entry FOD at airport works
At airport works, the transition to operational areas needs a separate FOD review with the operator. Discuss tyre-borne stones and debris, the permitted vehicle route and how collected material will be removed. Entrance mats support prevention at that boundary; they do not replace airfield inspections.
