Malaysia's EIA Guideline discusses a Stabilized Construction Entrance, wash trough or Tires Washing Facility as measures to maintain so that sediment or mud is not tracked onto adjacent public roads. It also calls for tracked-out material to be removed rather than washed into drainage without an effective sediment control.
The Department of Irrigation and Drainage's Urban Stormwater Management Manual uses construction access stabilisation and describes a stabilised aggregate pad at site entry and exit points, with a washrack as an additional way to remove caked-on sediment.
Compare a tyre wash, wash trough and reusable dry entrance
A tyre-washing facility or wash trough uses water and therefore needs suitable collection, treatment and maintenance. A stabilised aggregate entrance needs adequate space, preparation and periodic replenishment. A reusable FODS entrance is a relocatable dry system that may be evaluated on its own where permitted or before wet washing as a pre-cleaning stage.
No single method automatically satisfies every approval condition. The project environmental plan, local authority requirements, client specification, available footprint, vehicle mix and wet-weather routine should determine the final arrangement.
Plan inspection and housekeeping before installation
Assign responsibility for inspecting the entrance, removing accumulated material, keeping adjacent roads clean and recording maintenance. Confirm how recovered soil or sediment will be handled and how the entrance will change as the work zone moves.
For a pilot, record the current entrance method, traffic, rainfall, road-cleaning observations and maintenance time before and after installation. This creates a more useful basis for a purchase or rental decision than a product demonstration alone.
