Start with the project Earth Control Measures plan
PUB states that applicable construction sites must implement Earth Control Measures, or ECM, to prevent silty discharge from entering waterways. The ECM plan is designed and endorsed by a Qualified Erosion Control Professional and implemented before construction work begins.
A construction entrance product is therefore one part of a wider project plan. The current PUB Code of Practice also addresses covered or paved access roads at site exits and entrances, together with collection and treatment of silty runoff.
Separate dry trackout control from silty-water treatment
A reusable dry entrance can help a project team address material carried on vehicle tires before the vehicle reaches the public road. It does not replace an approved ECM plan, drainage controls, silty-water treatment or a truck wash where one is required by the authority, client or contract.
For sites using a truck wash bay, FODS may be evaluated as a dry pre-cleaning stage before wet washing. The project team should review the entrance length, vehicle types, turning movements, substrate, anchoring, rainfall exposure and cleaning method before selecting the layout.
Compare the roles at the construction-site exit
Covered or paved access supports site traffic and reduces contact with exposed soil. A reusable trackout mat is intended to release and contain material as tires travel across it. A truck wash or wash bay uses water for further cleaning and needs its own drainage and wash-water controls.
These measures can be complementary. The useful question is not simply whether FODS replaces a wheel wash, but which combination matches the approved ECM plan, the available footprint and the site's operating routine.
